The United Nations University – Operating Unit on Electronic Governance (UNU-EGOV) has just launched the drawing and painting contest “UNU-EGOV Art Challenge”, promoted as part of the celebrations of the unit’s 10th anniversary, which will take place in 2024. The challenge is open to people aged 18 or older residing in Portugal, namely artists, self-taught, fine arts students and painting and drawing lovers, with the aim of promoting art and artists, challenging them to apply their artistic skills.

The proposals must be based on the mission of UNU-EGOV as a research, consulting and training centre focused on using digital technologies to improve and support governance and public policies, with a view to sustainable economic and social development, social inclusion, and active citizenship. The proposals must also respect and be inspired by the general principles of the Charter of the United Nations and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda.

The three best-ranked works by the jury will be awarded prizes of 1000€ (1st prize), 500€ (2nd prize) and 250€ (3rd prize) and a set of selected works will be integrated into a public exhibition to be held next year.

The participants can enter individually or in a group, allowing them to submit up to three works, in any technique or style, framed in the languages of drawing and painting. The jury consists of Delfina Soares, director of UNU-EGOV, Paulo Lopes Silva, councillor for Culture of the Municipality of Guimarães and Paulo Freire de Almeida, associate professor at the School of Architecture, Art and Design (EAAD) of the University of Minho. The evaluation of the competing works will be based on creativity and technical and thematic adequacy.

The submission of proposals runs until the 23rd of February, 2024, and a month later, on the 23rd of March, the results of the contest will be announced.

For more information, please consult the regulation.
