Alberto Maresca is a PhD Fellow at UNU-CRIS and Ghent University. He is working on the agency of Latin America & the Caribbean (LAC) in the emergence of a multipolar world order.

His project, supervised by Dries Lesage as Promotor and Philippe De Lombaerde as Co-Promotor, examines how LAC countries respond to the erosion of U.S. hegemony, strengthen South-South cooperation, and engage with non-Western blocs such as BRICS. Alberto holds an MA in Latin American Studies from Georgetown University, and a Master’s Degree in Diplomacy and International Relations from the Diplomatic School of Spain. He also obtained a BA in Political Science and International Relations from the University Federico II in Naples.

Alberto has worked at the European External Action Service as a Blue Book Trainee on EU–Latin America relations, at the Embassy of Mexico in Washington, D.C., and as a Professor at the Sant’Anna Institute in Sorrento, Italy. He also served as a Teaching and Research Assistant at Georgetown University. His publications in peer-reviewed journals and international outlets address Latin American foreign policy, migration, dependency, and multipolarity.
