Modern slavery risks among people lacking official documentation

The Guardian reports on new UNU-CPR and Freedom Fund research exposing heightened risks among undocumented populations.

The Guardian sheds light on Kenya's child labour crisis and the devastating consequences of lacking a birth certificate faced by many, pointing to a new UNU-CPR Global Evidence Review produced in collaboration with The Freedom Fund examining modern slavery risks among people lacking documentation globally, including in Brazil, Kenya and Nepal.

The review marks the initial phase of a comprehensive research project being jointly undertaken by UNU-CPR and the Freedom Fund between October 2023 and September 2024. This research aims to identify actionable solutions and inform civil society organizations in these regions, generate practical policy recommendations, provide credible evidence for multilateral institutions and guide funders in supporting vulnerable populations.
