In this interview for the Global Governance Innovation Platform (GGI), recorded during the Global Governance Innovation Inception Workshop (16–17 January 2025), Marc Uzan reflects on the shift from a period of global economic integration to one of increasing fragmentation.
He points to the potential role of “middle powers” in mitigating these divides and advancing innovation in global economic governance, including through reform of the global financial architecture and greater inclusion of the Global South. While fragmentation may become a defining feature of the system, he suggests it can also create space for new forms of cooperation, regional initiatives and institutional innovation.
