Building Trust and Inclusion in Global Governance

Sarwat Adnan on trust, inclusive decision-making and the role of the UN in global cooperation.

In this interview for the Global Governance Innovation Platform (GGI), recorded during the Institution-building in an Era of Values Realism workshop (30 March, 2026), Sarwat Adnan identifies declining trust and patience as key challenges for global governance, highlighting the need for institutions to adapt to emerging issues such as artificial intelligence, outer space and the interests of future generations.

Drawing on her experience in UN coordination, she discusses the importance of impartial platforms that give diverse stakeholders an equal opportunity to contribute to decision-making, emphasizing how differing perspectives can foster innovation and collaboration. She also reflects on the continued relevance of the UN as a neutral platform for international cooperation in an increasingly interconnected world.
