Addressing Gaps in Global Governance

Jin Sun on global public goods, institutional cooperation and the role of the UN.

In this interview for the Global Governance Innovation Platform (GGI), recorded during the Institution-building in an Era of Values Realism workshop (30 March, 2026), Jin Sun examines key gaps in global governance, particularly the provision and financing of global public goods.

He discusses the importance of strengthening existing multilateral institutions and mechanisms, drawing on the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) as an example of how institutional cooperation can break down when major powers withdraw. He also reflects on the role of the UN Security Council in international security and agenda-setting, and highlights UNICEF's fundraising and partnership model as an example of how international organizations can help address gaps in the provision of global public goods.
