Due Process in UN Targeted Sanctions: Old Challenges, New Approaches

This retreat brought together Security Council members, senior UN officials and international law and academic experts to discuss UN sanctions.

Time
America/New York

The purpose of this retreat was focused on UN sanctions. It aimed to provide a forum for attendees to assess the existing risks to UN sanctions, as well as to identify ways that existing arrangements could be improved to protect UN sanctions regimes from legal challenges, before finally exploring innovative review mechanisms that could help mitigate future legal challenges.

This discussion built off a previous collaboration between UNU-CPR and Switzerland. The workshop brought together Security Council members, senior UN officials and leading international law and academic experts.
