UNU-FLORES senior researcher embarks on one-month visit to Thailand. During her stint at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Dr. Azin Zarei will focus on collaborative research addressing the impacts of climate change on vegetation dynamics, land cover change, and ecosystem resilience through an Integrated Nexus Approach. She will also engage in interdisciplinary dialogue, explore opportunities for future joint projects. As part of her visit, she delivered a seminar on “Integrated Nexus Approach to Assessing Climate Change Impacts on Grassland Ecosystem Dynamics: A Case Study from Tanzania” on 17 September 2025.
This visit aims to foster scientific exchange, strengthen institutional partnerships, and contribute to capacity-building.
At UNU-FLORES, Zarei’s research focuses on applying the Resource Nexus approach to improve existing methods for climate vulnerability and risk assessment in grassland and forest areas. Her expertise lies in:
- Identifying areas vulnerable to degradation by quantifying climate change impacts on vegetation cover.
- Vegetation dynamics monitoring through Remote Sensing.
- Applying Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for environmental analysis.
- Using advanced statistical models to enhance climate-related assessments.
Earlier in August 2025, UNU-FLORES welcomed Dr. Wenchao Xue from AIT, who delivered a lecture on microplastics to the doctoral researchers.
