We are pleased to announce the launch of the Michael Cichon Graduate Award for outstanding master's thesis in Social Protection. This award aims to honour the legacy of the late Michael Cichon, whose life’s work profoundly shaped the global social protection agenda.
At a time when social protection systems face growing complexity, this initiative seeks to spark innovative solutions and fresh perspectives through the voices of young academics. This award provides a platform for young scholars to demonstrate creativity and originality in tackling current challenges in the field of social protection. By engaging emerging researchers and thinkers, the award aims to support the next generation of policy makers and practitioners dedicated to advancing inclusive and sustainable social protection systems.
Michael Cichon was a visionary leader and advocate for universal social protection. He strongly believed in the power of engaging young minds to drive forward social justice and policy innovation. This award pays tribute to his enduring influence and dedication to supporting future leaders in the field.
The Michael Cichon Social Protection Award has four core objectives:
- Foster the Next Generation of Social Protection Practitioners
To inspire students and young scholars to engage deeply with social protection issues and pursue careers in the field. - Encourage Innovation and Fresh Perspectives
To create space for original thinking and novel solutions addressing current and future challenges in social protection. - Contribute to the Ongoing Global Dialogue
To enrich the academic and policy discourse with fresh, evidence-based contributions from young voices. - Commemorate Michael Cichon's Legacy
To recognise and celebrate Michael Cichon’s work and contributions to global social protection.
