Curriculum Design Workshop for Migration Studies in Uganda

Workshop to develop structured Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes in Migration Studies in Uganda.

The activity was a curriculum design workshop that brought together academic stakeholders and international experts to develop structured Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes in Migration Studies in Uganda. It addressed the fragmentation of migration-related teaching by seeking to establish a coherent, interdisciplinary academic framework aligned with both local realities and broader global and European perspectives. The workshop adopted a participatory, co-design approach that combined expert contributions, collaborative working sessions, and plenary discussions to translate comparative insights into context-specific curricula. Invited experts contributed by sharing experiences of how migration studies were taught and organised within European universities, thereby informing programme design. The process emphasised the integration of key thematic areas, including forced displacement, migration governance, climate mobility, and diaspora engagement. It resulted in the development of a draft curriculum framework and the establishment of a collaborative mechanism among participating institutions. Overall, the activity strengthened academic coordination and laid the groundwork for sustainable migration studies education and future programme expansion.
