Prof. dr. Eleonora Nillesen is a Professor at UNU-MERIT/Maastricht University and holds a chair in Public Policy and Development.
Eleonora is trained as a development economist and obtained her PhD from Wageningen University in 2010. She uses micro-economic household data to understand the impact of public policies and programs for development outcomes, with a particular focus on women, living in fragile and conflict-prone areas. Eleonora has done fieldwork in Burundi, DR Congo, Liberia, and Kenya and is currently involved in several projects in the Middle-East including Tunisia, Egypt and Jordan. She is a visiting professor at the Vancouver School of Economics at the University of British Columbia, Canada during the 24/25 academic year.
