This master's programme is delivered by UNU-INWEH in collaboration with CCNY's Division of Interdisciplinary Studies at the Center for Worker Education at the UNU Hub on Remote Sensing and Sustainable Innovations for Resilient Urban Systems( R-SIRUS), pairing a CCNY Master of Arts with a UNU-INWEH fellowship diploma.
The joint UNU-CCNY M.A. in the Study of the Americas is an interdisciplinary graduate programme that applies an interdisciplinary, intersectional lens to sustainability and urban resilience across the Americas, with an emphasis on policy-relevant, regionally grounded research. Students pursue the M.A. in the Study of the Americas from CCNY while simultaneously earning a UNU-INWEH fellowship Diploma in Urban Sustainability Studies Across the Americas, integrating humanities, social sciences, policy and geospatial methods.
The joint programme keeps the core structure of CCNY's existing M.A. in the Study of the Americas — covering literature, anthropology, history, philosophy, urban studies, cultural studies, film and political science, with topics including race, gender, human rights, contemporary politics, immigration and popular culture — with targeted additions aligned to UNU's priorities. It is offered both in person and online.
About The R-SIRUS HUB
Launched in 2024 at CCNY's Grove School of Engineering, R-SIRUS (Remote Sensing and Sustainable Innovations for Resilient Urban Systems) is the first UNU Hub in the United States. It works across three pillars — Research and Development; Education, Training and Capacity Building; and Policy, Advocacy and Outreach — and its research spans three clusters: earth monitoring and remote sensing of urban systems, climate change impacts on health in underserved urban communities, and energy innovations for sustainable urban environments.
