Dr. Varun Tiwari is a geospatial AI expert and Data Scientist specializing in the application of AI, remote sensing, and high-performance computing to advance climate resilience, agriculture, water management, and sustainable development.
At UNU-INWEH, Dr. Tiwari develops research and training initiatives on agriculture and water resource monitoring, with a particular emphasis on using AI and satellite data to support analysis and decision-making.
Dr. Tiwari has led projects with the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), CGIAR’s Borlaug Institute, and the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) under the SERVIR-HKH program, developing scalable geospatial-AI solutions for flood early warning systems, crop monitoring, food security, and environmental sustainability.
Dr. Tiwari holds a Ph.D. in Geospatial Analytics from North Carolina State University, a Master’s in Remote Sensing and GIS from the Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (ISRO), and a Bachelor’s in Electronics and Communication Engineering from Rajiv Gandhi Proudyogiki Vishwavidyalaya. His current research encompasses optical, SAR, hyperspectral, and climate datasets, leveraging cloud computing, high-performance computing, and deep learning to generate data-driven insights for real-world applications.
