Dr. Roohollah Noori is an expert in water quality assessments, with a particular focus on freshwater ecosystems.
As a Senior Scientist specializing in Environmental Pollution and Hydro-Informatics at UNU-INWEH, he investigates freshwater pollution caused by both natural (e.g., geogenic drivers) and anthropogenic sources (e.g., land-use/cover changes) at local, regional, and global scales.
Dr. Noori is especially interested in disentangling the effects of climate change from the impacts of other drivers, such as land-use changes and catchment-mediated processes, on environmental changes in freshwater ecosystems across various timescales. To address these challenges, he employs a wide range of methods, including physically-based models, data-driven approaches, satellite and airborne imagery, reanalysis and gridded data, in-situ observations, and socioeconomic datasets. His research provides valuable insights and roadmaps for resource managers and policymakers, helping them design targeted conservation strategies and prioritize remediation efforts for the restoration of aquatic ecosystems.
