Harness Synergies to Rescue the SDGs

Writing in The Japan News, UNU-IAS Director calls for synergies across scientific disciplines, sectors, research and education to achieve the SDGs.

On 6 July 2024, The Japan News published an opinion piece by  Shinobu Yume Yamaguchi (Director, UNU-IAS) arguing for integrated solutions to achieve the SDGs and address the interlinked crises of climate change, pollution and biodiversity.

Published around the 10th anniversary of UNU-IAS, the piece draws insights from the institute’s first decade of work harnessing synergies across scientific disciplines, between research and education, and across all sectors of society to meet the 2030 deadline. It urges leaders to place research and education at the centre of discussions at the September 2024 Summit of the Future.
