Applications are now open for a new course on Enhanced Climate Action through High Integrity Carbon Markets: Practicum on Implementation of Paris Agreement Article 6. The course will be held on 1 October 2024 – 4 February 2025 in a hybrid mode, with in-person lectures at UNU headquarters in Tokyo, Japan, and live streaming using Zoom.
Developed in collaboration with the Paris Agreement Article 6 Implementation Partnership Center hosted by the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES) as commissioned by Ministry of the Environment, Japan (MOEJ), the course will be provided by UNU-IAS in partnership with TERI School of Advanced Studies. External lecturers from leading international organizations such as UNFCCC Secretariat, the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank will teach parts of the course.
Article 6 of the Paris Agreement is attracting much attention in both public and private sectors. It is seen as a key vehicle to advance actions under the Paris Agreement by enabling Parties to cooperate to meet their mitigation commitments and pursue higher mitigation ambition to ultimately achieve the global goal of net zero emissions.
This course will provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of the core principles, guidance, rules, modalities and procedures associated with implementing Article 6 of the Paris Agreement. It will also empower them to take a lead role in developing and operationalizing carbon market mechanisms towards achieving net zero emissions.
The application deadline is 18 August 2024. For more information, please visit the course page.
NOTE: UNU-IAS is currently developing a Diploma Programme for Specialization on the Paris Agreement (SPA). Although the details are still under discussion, this course may be counted as a part of the Diploma Programme (subject to change).
