UNU-FLORES at the Biodiversity COP16 in Colombia

UNU-FLORES joins COP16, sharing insights on the Resource Nexus, participating in panels, and exploring partnerships

UNU-FLORES is gearing up to participate in the 16th Conference of the Parties (COP16) to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), taking place in Cali, Colombia. This significant event brings together global leaders, scientists, and stakeholders to discuss and forge strategies for the protection and sustainable management of biodiversity. 

UNU-FLORES will be represented by Sonja Hahn Tomer, who leads partnerships within the institute, and Ghada Amin, a doctoral researcher with a focus on biodiversity. Their involvement aims to foster collaborative efforts in addressing the critical challenges facing biodiversity and resource management. 

As part of its participation, UNU-FLORES will engage in several key activities: 

Panel Discussion: Hahn-Tomer will participate in a High-Level Roundtable panel discussion focused on Strengthening Action for Change: Synergistic Solutions to the Climate Crisis, Nature Loss, Desertification, and Pollution.

Presentation on the Resource Nexus and Biodiversity: Amin will deliver a lecture exploring the intricate connections between biodiversity and the Resource Nexus approach which is championed by UNU-FLORES.  

Interactions at the UN Hub: The duo will also engage with various stakeholders and participants at the UN Hub, fostering dialogue and collaboration with the COP delegates 

"Participation in major UN-led meetings is critical for synergy, as we collectively strive to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)," Sonja Hahn Tomer stated. "It’s about strengthening partnerships and working together both within and outside the UN to create a sustainable future for all."
