Dresden, Germany — The first Dresden-wide Citizen Science workshop was convened by UNU-FLORES in partnership with DRESDEN-Concept and SLUB on 16 September 2024. This one-day event showcased brief presentations on ongoing citizen science projects within the community.
The workshop commenced with opening remarks from Prof. Dr. Gerhard Rödel, followed by Moritz Müller, who set the scene for the day’s deliberations. A panel discussion featuring Prof. Dr. Rösen-Wolff from Technische Universität Dresden, Prof. Edeltraud Guenther from UNU-FLORES, and Mr. Martin Munke from SLUB, moderated by Professor Serena Coetzee, offered valuable insights into advancing citizen science in Dresden and beyond. Additionally, an expert talk by Prof. Dr. Muki Haklay, Vice Chair of the European Citizen Science Association, highlighted key developments in the field.
Taha Loghmani, a UNU-FLORES doctoral researcher and co-facilitator of the workshop, underscores the value of citizen science: “Citizen science can act as a glue, connecting society, policy, and science, promoting inclusivity and active participation," he remarks. His doctoral work explores its transformative role in fostering sustainable and resilient processes through Nature-based Solutions.
