How do default investment options influence sustainable investment choices?

Prof. Dr. Lars Hornuf is Full Professor of Finance and Financial Technology at TUD Dresden University of Technology, Visiting Professor at Wroclaw University of Economics and Business, and Research Fellow at CESifo. His research focuses on financial decision-making, financial technology, and sustainable finance.

In this seminar, Prof. Hornuf presents results from a field experiment with robo-advisor clients, examining how default settings impact sustainable investment behavior. Although sustainability preferences do influence decisions, the strong focus on financial returns suggests that many investors are still reluctant to sacrifice performance for sustainability in real-world scenarios.

The Nexus Seminar Series is coordinated by Prof. Serena Coetzee and Prof. Samanthi Dijkstra-Silva.

Don’t miss this evidence-based discussion on investor behavior and the limits of moral motivation in sustainable finance.
