Interactive Resource Nexus Materials Made Publicly Available

Resource Nexus materials presented to stakeholders across academia, government, and Dresden during Prof. Guenther’s farewell

The Resource Nexus approach is derived from the insight that focusing on a single resource is insufficient for addressing sustainability challenges related to achieving water, food or energy security.

The Resource Nexus approach, therefore, considers resources and their interdependencies from a holistic perspective. The Resource Nexus approach is critical for linking policy transformations, such as achieving climate neutrality, advancing the circular economy, and fostering a green economy, with sustainable development practices. Following this approach illuminates the intricate connections between multiple resources essential for a sustainable future.

This module introduces you to the Resource Nexus approach, which promotes coherent decision-making across governments, businesses, and consumers to drive global sustainable development. It starts with the basics of resources, then moves on to the complex interrelationships among them, including potential synergies and trade-offs. Recognising these interdependencies is essential, as they directly impact our ability to manage resources efficiently and effectively for achieving diverse social, economic, and environmental objectives.

The module is divided into three parts, each comprising a set of lessons. Each part of this course is designed to take approximately 30 minutes, making it accessible and easy to integrate into your schedule. Nevertheless, taking time to reflect on the content to ensure retention of what you have read requires more time.

Each part includes quizzes to reinforce learning and track your progress through a built-in progress indicator. By working through the parts sequentially, you can build on foundational concepts as you progress through the course at your own pace.

We hope you enjoy learning about the Resource Nexus approach and find the module insightful and practical!
