Flávio de Andrade Silva is an Associate Professor and Department Head at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio), Brazil.
Flávio Silva is currently an associate professor at PUC-Rio with over 20 years of experience on teaching, research and consultancy in the area of construction materials. He is the Deputy Chair of the RILEM Technical Committee 292 MCC and member of several technical committees in ACI and RILEM.
His research interests include high performance fiber reinforced cementitious composites, sustainable materials, cement pastes for oil well applications, durability of cement based materials and integration of advanced construction materials to improve structural performance. He is the author of more than 180 articles in high-impact scientific journals (as of December of 2025) and directed several state of the art research projects and contracts with the industry.
At UNU-FLORES, he focuses on the sustainable building and construction area. The goal is to develop solutions that balance environmental responsibility with the need for housing in the Global South, delivering tangible benefits to society while advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
