This involved exploring the potential of Smart Cities initiatives to enhance sustainability and socio-economic development while mitigating issues such as inadequate infrastructure, environmental degradation, and social disparities. Additionally, the project aimed to bridge the gap between the theoretical potential of Smart Cities and their practical implementation, particularly in developing countries, by providing comprehensive research findings and policy recommendations to support informed decision-making and foster indigenous capacity building in Smart City development.

Activities

The study examined 876 scientific publications, policy recommendations issued by 51 think tank organisations, and 119 Smart City initiatives, and conducted 7 interviews with urban policymakers, managers, and researchers.
