This project aims to evaluate the digital services market and existing regulatory frameworks across Western Asia to enhance user safety and protection online. By drawing comparisons with the EU’s Digital Services Act (DSA) and examining best practices from countries such as Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Singapore, and Australia, the project seeks to determine the viability and potential benefits of implementing a unified legislative approach similar to the DSA at the national or regional level.

Activities

  • Phase 1: Bassline assessment consisting of high-level market demand assessment and high-level regulatory framework assessment in the country and the region.

  • Phase 2: Benchmarking Assessment containing analysis of the EU regulatory framework with a focus on the DSA assessment and key benchmarking takeaways to identify potential approaches to tackle online user harm and various approaches.

  • Phase 3: Gaps assessment and recommendations focusing on identifying the similarities and differences between the EU and the regional market and regulatory frameworks and evaluating the key options for going forward and policy recommendations design.
