Elsa Costa e Silva has been an Adjunct Professor at the United Nations University Operating Unit on Policy-Driven Electronic Governance (UNU-EGOV) since 2024.
She is also an associate professor at the Department of Communication Sciences at the University of Minho and an integrated researcher at the Communication and Society Research Centre.
Elsa Costa e Silva is co-coordinator of the PolObs-Observatory on Science, Communication and Culture Policies and a member of the Executive Committee of the IDEA Centre, the centre of innovation and teaching development of the University of Minho.
She was part of a European consortium that developed a project for monitoring media ownership and transparency. She has published in leading journals in the field. Her research interests focus on Political Economy of Communication, Media Regulation and Science Communication.
Previously, she worked as a journalist for 10 years in one of the main daily newspapers of Portugal.
Elsa Costa e Silva holds a Ph.D. in Communication Sciences from the University of Minho, specialising in the Political Economy of Communication.
