Rethinking Institutions in an Era of Values Realism

Vincent Pouliot on inequality, adaptation and global policymaking.

In this interview for the Global Governance Innovation Platform (GGI), recorded during the Institution-building in an Era of Values Realism workshop (16–17 January 2025), Vincent Pouliot reflects on the limits of existing institutions in addressing structural challenges such as global inequality.

He highlights the potential of drawing on past practices, including more inclusive forms of representation, and emphasizes that global governance evolves through incremental adaptation and experimentation. While current pressures on multilateralism are significant, he underscores that global policymaking remains an ongoing, political process, one that continues to offer scope for renewal.
