The WIDER Development Conference on the role of domestic revenue mobilization in development will take place in Oslo, Norway, during 6-8 September 2023.
How can countries in the global South better use and mobilize their domestic resources to accelerate progress towards the goals of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development?
This conference brings together experts from research and policy networks from around the world to discuss and debate the findings and policy recommendations of UNU-WIDER's Domestic Revenue Mobilization (DRM) research programme, funded by Norad. The conference will support policy processes in partner countries and in the Global South by sharing new knowledge on how domestic revenue mobilization can be enhanced and how it can combat poverty.
Keynote speakers include Hanan Morsy (Chief Economist, UNECA) and Asim Khwaja (FASID Professor of International Finance and Development, Harvard University). In addition, the programme includes three policy plenaries on financing sustainable development, the policy impact of UNU-WIDER’s revenue authority research collaborations in sub-Saharan Africa and illicit financial flows.
The conference will include parallel sessions on building efficient and fair tax systems, extractives for development, fiscal states, illicit financial flows, and the challenges of raising domestic savings in sub-Saharan Africa. There will also be sessions on the Government Revenue Dataset (GRD), a poster session, fireside chats and networking opportunities.
