The Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9) will be held in Yokohama on 20–22 August 2025. With headquarters in Tokyo and decades of research, programmes and partnerships throughout Africa, UNU is a committed supporter of the TICAD process and will be actively involved in TICAD 9.
UNU work in and on Africa is rooted in an interdisciplinary approach to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. With a global network of specialized research institutes and programmes — including an Africa-based institute, operating units and a new UNU Hub — UNU is focused on advancing knowledge to help overcome Africa’s multifaceted development challenges at local, national and regional levels.
Through research and capacity-building on topics ranging from peacebuilding and the socioeconomic risks of climate change, to water security and the impacts of social protection measures on poverty, UNU is generating evidence-based solutions to help achieve sustainable development, peace, and equality throughout Africa.
