United Nations Day in Chemnitz to Spotlight Hydrogen and the Future of Sustainable Energy

The City of Chemnitz, UNU Resource Nexus and HZwo e. V. will jointly host a public event to mark United Nations Day on 11 November 2026 at the Stadtwirtschaft Chemnitz. Under the theme, “Hydrogen: Funding Hype or a Technology with a Future?”, the event will bring together representatives from science, business, government and civil society to discuss the opportunities and challenges associated with hydrogen as part of the energy transition.

The event will begin at 6:00 p.m. (doors open at 5:00 p.m.) and will feature expert presentations, a moderated panel discussion and opportunities for audience engagement.

The programme complements the international FC³ Fuel Cell Conference 2026, taking place in Chemnitz on the same day. While the conference is aimed at a specialist audience, the United Nations Day event seeks to bring key questions surrounding hydrogen technology into the public sphere and encourage informed discussion on its role in sustainable development.

Opening remarks will be delivered by representatives of the City of Chemnitz, UNU Resource Nexus and the Saxon State Ministry for Economic Affairs, Labour, Energy and Climate Protection. Experts from academia, industry and public administration will then discuss the role of hydrogen in supporting climate goals, industrial transformation and regional development, with opportunities for audience participation.

Hydrogen is a timely topic for this year's United Nations Day, reflecting both its growing importance in the Chemnitz region and its relevance to global sustainability discussions.

Members of the public, researchers, students, policymakers and industry representatives are invited to join the conversation and help shape a more informed dialogue on the future of hydrogen and sustainable energy systems.
