Sabine Becker is the Director of the United Nations University (UNU) Office in Paris.
Sabine leads the re-opened office’s mission to strengthen UNU’s strategic engagement with key United Nations partners and with French stakeholders across government, policy institutions, academia, and the private sector. In this role, she advances high-level dialogue, partnerships, and resource mobilization in support of UNU’s global research and policy agenda.
Previously, Sabine served as Executive Officer of UNU, working closely with the Rector on the strategic and operational management of the University and the delivery of key institutional priorities. She also served as Secretary of the University’s Governing Board (UNU Council) as well as Secretary to the Conference of Directors and the Management Group, providing senior-level coordination, governance support, and institutional leadership across the UNU system. She earlier held the role of UNU Chief of Staff.
Before joining UNU, Sabine worked as an independent consultant on aid effectiveness, humanitarian coordination, and organizational performance for UN agencies, NGOs, and governments. She also served as an evaluator with the UN Office of Internal Oversight Services in New York and the UN Evaluation Group. She began her career at a consulting firm in Paris, managing public finance, EU expansion, and institutional reform projects in Eastern Europe, the Balkans, and the Middle East.
Sabine holds a PhD from Waseda University in Tokyo and master’s degrees in international relations from Sciences Po Paris and Université Paris I - Sorbonne. She is fluent in English, French, and German.
