About this course

This course provides an in-depth understanding of conducting structured academic and/or policy literature reviews utilizing modern digital tools, such as Litoscope Academic and Litoscope Policy v2.5. The course will cover data sources and access, various types of literature reviews, established frameworks, and practical steps for crafting effective reviews. It will also address the integration of bibliometric methods and the conditional use and citation of generative AI Large Language Models (LLMs) in academic and policy research.

 

Learning Goals

Students will be equipped with skills and knowledge on the use of scientific citation indices. They will learn how to extract databases of scientific articles for qualitative and/or quantitative research, and how to set up their scientific literature reviews using bibliometric and scientometric principles and parameters.
In a disciplinary, interdisciplinary and/or transdisciplinary way, the course recognizes the importance of solving global and local societal challenges with regard to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Prerequisites

This course is targeted to master and doctoral students from all fields, or anyone working with literature reviews.

 

Cost

100 EUR

 

Estimated Workload

The estimated workload is 40 hours including:

  • 10 contact hours
  • 30 hours for the assignment.

 

Duration: 10 weeks

  • 1 week to access the platform and become familiar with the material
  • 4 weeks of coursework
  • 2 weeks to submit the final assignment and
  • 1 week for potential resits.

 

Certification

Participants that complete the course obtain an online educational certificate indicating the course has a 2 ECTS Equivalence workload.
