About the course

This short course is fully online and is designed for bachelor's and master's students.

Effective personal knowledge management is a key success factor across disciplines and an increasingly valuable skill for students and professionals alike. Throughout your academic and professional journey, you continuously collect and generate knowledge and insights. Keeping high-quality, reliable information accessible allows you to act on that knowledge long even when it is no longer fresh in your mind. It also enables you to draw additional insights that are only available if you can zoom out and perceive the whole tapestry of knowledge. At the same time, effective personal knowledge management should demand very little of your daily life. The goal isn't to add more work to your life, but to make it easier to retain and build upon what you've learned. This course offers a hands-on approach to help you build your own personal knowledge vault.

Course Aim

By the end of the course, students are expected to:

  • Understand the key principles of knowledge management.
  • Assess your personal needs: what support would you like to obtain from a personal knowledge manager.
  • Set up a personal knowledge base (vault) using Obsidian.
  • Import existing information into your vault.
  • Setting up notes through the use of templates for common note-taking scenarios and quick capture on the go.
  • Use graph view to discover patterns in your knowledge.
