The programme introduced a structured curriculum focused on open-source technologies, ethical digital design, and sustainable digital solutions.

Jointly implemented by UNU-MERIT, UNICEF Innovation, and Kazakh-British Technical University, established the first university-level Digital Public Goods (DPG) track in Kazakhstan. The programme introduced a structured curriculum focused on open-source technologies, ethical digital design, and sustainable digital solutions.

Comprising three courses, the track aimed to equip students with the knowledge and practical skills needed to contribute to the development and deployment of digital public goods aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The initiative emphasized local ownership, innovation, and the responsible use of digital technologies. Following its initial implementation, the curriculum was also extended to partner universities in Ghana and Sierra Leone, supporting knowledge exchange and adaptation across different regional contexts.

Target Group

Undergraduate and graduate students in Kazakhstan, as well as in Ghana and Sierra Leone, particularly those studying computer science, information systems, engineering, and related disciplines. It was also relevant for early-career professionals and innovators interested in open-source development, digital innovation, and technology for development.

Timing and duration

The curriculum was developed and implemented as part of an academic programme, with courses delivered over standard university semesters. Each course ran for several weeks, combining lectures, assignments, and project-based learning. The programme was designed to be recurring and scalable, embedded within university course offerings and adaptable across different country contexts.
