Gopi Kharel is an accomplished professional with a passion for leveraging strategic communications and knowledge management to drive organizational impact. In July 2023, he assumed the role of Knowledge Management and Communications Manager at UNU IIGH.
In his role, he leads the charge in enhancing the institute's visibility, media and social media presence, and knowledge dissemination. Gopi is dedicated to reshaping the public perception of the institute while empowering internal teams with cutting-edge communication tools and technologies.
Before joining UNU IIGH, Gopi served as a Digital Communication Officer for UNDP's Regional Programme within the Regional Service Centre of UNDP Africa, based in Addis Ababa. In this role, he spearheaded social media campaigns, oversaw website management, and crafted compelling communication products to bolster visibility. His professional journey also encompasses impactful Communication roles with other UN Agencies, including the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN and the World Food Programme.
Drawing from his early career as a journalist, Gopi's experience extends across the private sector and national NGOs, providing him with a comprehensive understanding of diverse sectors. He holds a Masters degree in International Broadcast Journalism from Birmingham City University in the UK, and a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism, Psychology, and English from Christ University in Bangalore, India.
