On 15 July 2024 the Higher Education Sustainability Initiative (HESI) will organize a special event at the 2024 High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) to be held in New York on 8–17 July 2024. It will feature a multi-stakeholder discussion on the intersection of education, innovation and sustainability, emphasizing the impact of artificial intelligence and other technologies. The forum will showcase inspiring initiatives from the UN system and HESI action groups, highlighting higher education's role in advancing implementation of the SDGs.

It will also serve as a preparatory platform for upcoming initiatives to be advocated or launched at the 2024 Summit of the Future. Recommendations and strategies from the Forum will inform policy and practice, shaping advocacy efforts and action plans for sustainable development in higher education.

Also at the event, UNU (HESI co-chair in 2024–2025) will launch a new Action Group on "Future of Higher Education and AI". For more information, please contact hesi.unu@unu.edu.

Participation

The event is open to all registered participants of 2024 HLPF. If you are not registered to attend the HLPF (neither have a valid UN grounds pass) and would like to attend this meeting in person, please register by 5 July (17:00 EDT).

Please note that participants in UNU events may appear in photography, screen captures, videos and/or audio (see disclaimer).
