Dr. Mary Antonette Beroya-Eitner joined UNU as a JSPS postdoctoral fellow in October 2014. Her research interest is on the improvement of current Flood Loss Estimation Models through the integration of factors affecting vulnerability. Dr. Beroya-Eitner has several years of working experience in geohazard assessment, particularly on landslides and earthquakes. She has worked in different countries (the Philippines, Hong Kong, Germany and USA) under different working conditions (government, non-government organisations, academe, and private consultancy). She did her bachelors and masters degrees in Geology at the University of the Philippines, while her PhD degree in Engineering Geology was obtained from the University of Hong Kong. For her PhD thesis, she developed a new approach to liquefaction hazard zonation and applied it to one of the most important coastal cities in the Philippines, Laoag City. Later, she entered the Elite International Masters Study Program in Global Change Ecology at the University of Bayreuth, Germany with the aim of integrating her knowledge on geohazard assessment with developments in climate change research.
