Emmanuel Mutisya works on higher education, catalyzing next-generation researchers and and youth entrepreneurship for sustainable development in Africa. Prior to joining UNU, he was a Project Assistant Professor at The University of Tokyo’s Graduate Program in Sustainability Science, Global Leadership Initiative (GPSS-GLI), where he taught and supervised students and led research on Africa’s Sustainability. He coordinates the Next Generation of Researchers Group – a group of faculty members below the age of 40 years, who are expected to assume key roles in implementing the field-based and problem-solving oriented component of the ESDA Programme – as well as assume leadership in sustainability science research. He also coordinates the Africa Youth Entrepreneurship Initiative, a programme that fosters African young entrepreneurs and researchers for new industry development in support of sustainable industrialization. Dr. Mutisya’s research interests include sustainability science, higher education, rural-urban linkages, business and entrepreneurship, green growth, water and sanitation, climate change, renewable energy, and impact evaluations.
