Dr. Binaya Kumar Mishra joined UNU-IAS as a Research Fellow for the Water and Urban Initiative in August 2014. Dr. Mishra is also a part-time Senior Researcher at the Integrated Research System for Sustainability Science (IR3S), The University of Tokyo. He holds a PhD in Engineering from Kyoto University, Japan with a focus on flood disaster management. During his PhD research, Dr. Mishra developed empirical relationships to estimate flood frequency equations for different hydrological regions of Nepal. His research and teaching interests include integrated water resources management, climate and ecosystem change, and GIS applications. He has published his research works in several national and international journals, reports and proceedings. He is familiar with the application of a number of computer tools in the fields of water resources, environment, agriculture and geospatial analyses. Prior to joining UNU-IAS as a Research Fellow, Dr. Mishra was engaged as a Project Researcher at IR3S, The University of Tokyo and a Visiting Research Fellow at UNU-IAS. He was a JSPS Postdoctoral Research Fellow from September 2010 to August 2012, and continued as a Research Associate at UNU-IAS until October 2013. Dr. Mishra also worked as an Irrigation Engineer at the Ministry of Irrigation; a Senior Lecturer at Kathmandu Engineering College, Tribhuvan University; and a Consultant Engineer at Everest Engineering Consultancy, Kathmandu, Nepal during 1999–2006.
