Ms. Asako Toyozumi-Kojima is a Programme Coordinator at UNU-IAS for the projects Water and Urban Initiative (WUI), Education for Sustainable Development (ESD), and Fukushima Global Communication (FGC). She is responsible for planning and implementation of overall ESD project activities, research activities of the WUI water component, and FGC project activities. Prior to joining UNU-IAS, she was engaged in environmental policy planning and implementation. She has wide experience in water-related policies including amendment of standards from drinking water to marine environments. In 2008 she coordinated the 50th anniversary symposium for Japan’s water environmental policy, to appreciate those who had devoted themselves to the improvement of the water environment at the local government level, and to share Japan’s experience and perspective on its future water environmental policy. She also has broad experience in waste management and recycling policy development, including establishment and amendment of regulations for waste management, publishing reporting guidelines for businesses producing large quantities of waste, overseeing the activities of the Japan Automobile Recycling Promotion Center, and developing a programme to help establish a business model for sound material recycling.
