Prospects for Growth
Many people today wonder how growth can be measured to include not only the traditional indicator of "Gross Domestic Product" (GDP) but also aspects such as "circular economy," "ecological diversity," and "social justice." These factors are crucial for ensuring our society's long-term sustainable existence on a social foundation within planetary boundaries.
In 2015, the United Nations member states adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, including 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This year's UN Day focuses specifically on SDG 8, "Decent Work and Economic Growth," and SDG 17, "Partnerships for the Goals," particularly on "measuring progress in sustainable development that complements the GDP."
We are pleased to announce that Prof. Edeltraud Günther, Director of UNU-FLORES, will speak about the United Nations Summit of the Future with a special focus on the Beyond-GDP Initiative. There will also be a video message from Prof. Ulrike Malmendier, a member of the German Council of Economic Experts, and a welcome address by Jan Pratzka, Deputy Mayor for Economy, Digitalization, Personnel, and Security of the City of Dresden.

Following these presentations, a panel discussion will delve deeper into the topics. The second part of the event will feature the 25th Local Agenda Award ceremony.
