Senior sustainability and just transition leader operating at the intersection of international policy, industry transformation, and applied research. Combines experience across the United Nations system, private-sector transformation, and entrepreneurial ventures to deliver large-scale environmental and economic transition programmes.

Dennis Pulimittathu is a Senior Sustainability Leader and spatial geographer focused on the repurposing of mine closures into viable economic futures for post-extractive regions. At the Research Center of Post Mining (DMT LB GmbH / RAG Foundation), he is building a Global Post Mining Support Platform that turns closures into opportunities rather than liabilities, linking science, policy, and implementation to strengthen resource security and resilient value chains.

His work is grounded in one principle: standards only matter if they hold under real-world pressure. He focuses on making environmental and social frameworks operational across complex delivery environments and fragmented supply chains.

Dennis operates at the mineral–nature nexus with tri-sector experience. He has led UN missions across India, Ghana, Australia, South Africa, and Mauritania under UNCCD, delivering policy diagnostics on land restoration and artisanal mining. At UNFCCC COP28 (Dubai) and UNCCD COP16 (Riyadh), he contributed to high-level dialogues shaping the restoration economy, alongside engagements with UNDP, IGF, and the World Bank.

He contributes to international standard-setting as a drafting member of ISO/TC 82/SC 7 and as an expert to the German DIN committee on social transition in mine closure. His private-sector experience includes building environmental infrastructure ventures and advancing bankable clean energy and battery recycling projects in Europe and Asia.

His network spans key regions for Germany’s strategic partnerships and includes collaboration with leading international research and innovation actors, as well as ministries such as BMZ/GIZ. He is also engaged in global platforms around the World Economic Forum (Davos).
Dennis focuses on turning complex mandates into deliverable results, advising governments and industry in emerging economies on mine closure, regional diversification, and just transition.
