Zina Nimeh is an assistant professor at UNU-MERIT’s School of Governance in the Netherlands, where she runs the Master’s specialization in Social Protection Policy Financing and Budgeting (part of the M.Sc. programme in Public Policy and Human Development).

Her current research interests include multidimensional poverty, social exclusion, inequality, social stratification, citizenship and social protection policy design. Her regional focus is the Middle East and North Africa.

Dr. Nimeh obtained her PhD in Public Policy and Policy Analysis in 2012 from Maastricht University through a Marie Curie research grant. She holds a Master’s degree in Labour and Human Resources from the Ohio State University with a focus on internationalization and strategic organizational development and leadership, and a bachelor’s degree in Finance from Xavier University in Cincinnati. 

Her teaching and training experience includes curriculum development, instruction, assessment, and professional development in diverse, cross-cultural and multi-lingual settings.  Outside academia she has had managerial and consulting experience in the areas of human development, social policies and public sector reform with focus on labour and employment, education and social cohesion. She has applied experience in policy development and implementation and continues to work proactively as a policy and strategy consultant for civil society, governments and several UN organizations including the ILO and UNICEF.
