Workshop Explores Dimensions of Sustainable Co-creation in the Public Sector

Workshop explores ethical, participatory co-creation practices in EU public sector, led by Visiting Fellow Noella Edelmann at UNU-EGOV.

On 7 November, UNU-EGOV welcomed Noella Edelmann, a Visiting Fellow from Danube University Krems (Austria), for an internal workshop titled "Dimensions of Sustainable Co-creation: Processes, Outcomes & Ethics – Experiences from European Public Sector Organisations."

This workshop marked the second in a knowledge-sharing series led by Dr Edelmann during her time at UNU-EGOV, following an earlier session in July on "Challenges of e-Participation and Co-creation." Both workshops reflect UNU-EGOV’s commitment to fostering informed, ethical, and citizen-centric approaches to digital governance.

Drawing from her research and hands-on experiences, Dr Edelmann introduced several key concepts and frameworks that underpin successful co-creation initiatives. These included the quadruple helix model, the co-creation journey, the co-creation value proposition, and the ethical principles guiding collaborative innovation.

Participants also had the opportunity to explore best practices and lessons learned from various co-creation initiatives implemented across European public sector organisations. The discussions highlighted how inclusive and sustainable collaboration can strengthen the design and delivery of public services.

The workshop series supports UNU-EGOV’s broader efforts to promote participatory governance and institutional innovation, particularly through Research Line 3: Participation, People, and Communities.
