IPIC 2023 Public Session

Portuguese Municipal Councils excel in internet presence ranking.

The Portuguese Municipal Councils best positioned in the ranking that assesses internet presence were distinguished on April 23 during the presentation session of the 2023 IPIC (Internet Presence Index of Municipal Councils), which took place at the United Nations University (UNU-EGOV) in Guimarães.

Promoted by the Agency for Administrative Modernization (AMA), the University of Minho (UM), and the United Nations University - Operational Unit on Electronic Governance (UNU-EGOV), the study analyzed the presence and performance of local authorities on the Internet. It evaluated aspects such as the content and online services provided, accessibility, navigability, ease of use, and citizen participation.

During the presentation of the results for 2023, trophies were awarded to Municipal Councils ranked in the top three positions in the overall index, as well as in each of the four sub-indices: Content - Type and Updates; Accessibility, Navigability, and Ease of Use; Online Services; and Participation. Honourable mentions were also given to Municipal Councils ranked up to the 10th position in the overall index and across the four sub-indices.
