How Data Can Help Us Build a Better Society: Insights from the 2023 Digital Nations Ministerial Meeting

UNU-EGOV co-sponsored the 2023 Digital Nations Ministerial Meeting.

Organized under the Portuguese presidency, Digital Nations is a network of countries that share their knowledge and best practices on using data and technology to improve the lives of their citizens and the planet.

The main theme of the meeting was “Better Data. Better Society”, reflecting the vision of Digital Nations to harness the potential of data to contribute towards a more sustainable and resilient society. Crucial societal and economic themes such as ethics, privacy, transparency, and accountability were included in the discussion. We explored how data can be used to solve common problems and challenges in areas such as health, education, environment, and security.

The United Nations University Operating Unit on Policy-Driven Electronic Governance co-sponsored the exchange of best practices on international cooperation in digital policy affairs, focusing on cyber-security and digital governance. The session also featured a special seminar for developing countries aimed at fostering digital inclusion and innovation.

UNU-EGOV is proud to be part of this important event and to support the Digital Nations and their mission to use data as a powerful tool.

We thank the Portuguese presidency of Digital Nations for hosting this event, and we look forward to continuing our cooperation with them and their partners in the future.
