Celebration of World Heritage anniversary with Open Event

Join the “CULTUR’arte – Bringing Communities Together” celebration on 20 September, 5 PM, celebrating Couros as a UNESCO site.

The United Nations University – Operational Unit on Electronic Governance is organising the Seminar and Workshop "CULTUR’arte – Bringing Communities Together" on 20 September, from 5 PM, in our building, as part of the Guimarães City Hall celebrations for the first anniversary of Couros as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, centred on the theme “Heritage is the People”.

This session aims to address the importance and role of tangible and intangible cultural heritage in community building and explore culture as technology, encompassing a range of cognitive, digital, symbolic, and social technological tools that facilitate individual interaction with the world and the adaptation and evolution of societies.

Aimed at the general public, the initiative seeks to translate scientific knowledge in this field, highlighting the transformative impact of culture in building and strengthening communities. Through an interactive format, the event also aims to demonstrate that the experiences and heritage of each individual are valuable and indispensable assets in the construction of the whole.

In the workshop, participants will be invited to represent their shared or collective vision of the Couros/Guimarães community through a poem, artwork, dance, or other forms of expression.

The event will be conducted in English and Portuguese, with French, Spanish, and Arabic support.

If you intend to join us for the event, please register using this form. You can find the programme for this session below, it's available in English and Portuguese.

For more information on all the celebrations happening in the area, visit the municipality's website.
