Trust as a Foundation for Governance Innovation

Annalena Edler on rebuilding trust in global governance.

In this interview for the Global Governance Innovation Platform (GGI), recorded during the Global Governance Innovation Inception Workshop (16–17 January 2025), Annalena Edler reflects on the central role of trust in advancing global governance innovation. She highlights rebuilding trust among Member States and stakeholders as a key measure of success for the initiative, particularly in the context of multilateral negotiations and institutional reform. Trust, she suggests, is not only an objective but also a guiding criterion for designing and assessing governance models in an increasingly complex international system.
