Looking Beyond Global Institutions in Climate Governance

Gina Kozianka on local actors and the changing landscape of global governance.

In this interview for the Global Governance Innovation Platform (GGI), recorded during the Global Governance Innovation Inception Workshop (16–17 January 2025), Gina Kozianka reflects on the importance of looking beyond traditional global institutions when addressing complex challenges. She argues that many global problems are already governed by a range of actors and that understanding who is shaping decisions is essential to designing more effective governance approaches. Focusing on climate change, she highlights the need to consider local actors alongside global bodies and to explore how different forms of governance can inform multilateral cooperation.
