Dr. Wibke Hansen is Senior Fellow (Non-Resident) supporting UNU-CPR’s Conflict Prevention and Sustaining Peace research pillar.
Dr. Hansen is a peace and conflict specialist with over 20 years of experience working on peacebuilding, peacekeeping, stabilization and prevention. Dr. Hansen has extensive work experience in analysis and policy advice as well as in the field. Her most recent field assignment, until 2024, was as Senior Peacebuilding Advisor for UNDP Sudan where she also supported the UNCT in planning for peacebuilding and resilience outcomes following crisis offset. She also served with UNMIS for several years during the implementation of Sudan’s Comprehensive Peace Agreement. Dr. Hansen held different positions with the Center for International Peace Operations (ZIF) including as Senior Advisor, Head of Analysis and Deputy Director.
Dr. Hansen has published widely on peace operations, peacebuilding and sustaining peace and the impact of organized crime on fragile states. She has frequently advised policy and decision makers on peace and security issues, including in the German parliament and government, and is a member of the German Federal Foreign Office’s Advisory Board on UN-Affairs. Dr. Hansen currently works as an independent expert and advisor with a strong focus on prevention, peacebuilding, protection and the interlinkages between them and a keen interest in advancing peace impact and effective multilateralism.
