P.T. Nhean is a UNU/GSPI Visiting Science-Policy Fellow at the Geneva Office of the United Nations University Centre for Policy Research.
P.T. Nhean is the Director of Biosecurity at AI Safety Asia (AISA), a regional AI governance organization, where she’s leading the biosecurity efforts across research, convening, and capacity building.
At AISA, in partnership with the UK government, she leads a landscaping study on AI for Engineering Biology across Thailand, the Philippines, India, and the UK, engaging government, academia, industry, civil society, and philanthropy, and leads Asia's first AI-Bio roundtable series, convening leaders from China, India, the US, and Southeast Asia to address regional risks and governance gaps. She also hosted multiple successful workshops and tabletop exercise for senior stakeholders across South and Southeast Asian governments.
Earlier in her career, she worked to develop an agent-based model for seasonal influenza in tropical climate, co-founded Southeast Asia Biosecurity (SEA Bio), contributed to the WHO European Office on Youth for Health initiative, consulted on a risk index for AI-powered biological tools, and was selected for UNODA’s competitive biosecurity fellowship cohort in 2025.
Her work bridges technical epidemiological research and engineering with regional efforts to strengthen biosafety, biosecurity, and preparedness against emerging biological and AI-enabled threats.
