Eugene Chen is a Senior Fellow supporting UNU-CPR’s Conflict Prevention and Sustaining Peace research pillar.

Chen's research examines the interplay of substantive policy, intergovernmental politics and bureaucratic processes at the United Nations in the areas of peace and security and institutional reform. Over the course of his career, Chen has been instrumental in driving reform at the UN in areas ranging from internal administration, the management of peace operations, peacebuilding financing, cross-pillar integration, support to African peace operations, and international cooperation in digital and emerging technologies.

Chen previously served as Senior Fellow and Director of the Prevention, Peacebuilding, and Protracted Crises program at the New York University Center on International Cooperation. His experience within the United Nations Secretariat includes work in the Executive Office of the Secretary-General, the Office of the Secretary-General’s Envoy on Technology, the United Nations Mission for Justice Support in Haiti, the Department of Field Support, and the Department of Peacekeeping Operations. Earlier in his career, Chen served as an advisor on United Nations management and reform at the United States Mission to the United Nations.
